


Halfway through 2026, the Swiss job market feels less like a boom and more like a filter. Companies are recruiting more cautiously, and demand is becoming more differentiated across professions. While broad “digital” profiles face stronger competition, specialized roles continue to hold their value.
The latest data reflect this shift. According to the Adecco Group Swiss Job Market Index for Q2 2026, advertised vacancies fell by 2.4% compared with the previous quarter, while remaining broadly stable year on year. Rather than hiring across the board, employers are focusing more closely on the skills required for specific roles and business needs.
For cybersecurity professionals, this distinction matters. Organizations still need people who can secure cloud environments, respond to incidents, manage cyber risk, and strengthen resilience. In a more selective market, the ability to apply these skills to real business problems becomes increasingly important.
Three profiles are particularly relevant because they address problems that are difficult to solve through general IT capability or automation alone: securing complex environments, protecting cloud infrastructure, and responding effectively to incidents.
A critical takeaway for 2026 is that cybersecurity’s relevance is amplified, not diminished, by the market’s new selectivity.
In the first half of 2025, Adecco reported a 31% year-on-year drop in vacancies for graduate IT professions, with IT job vacancies more than half below their mid-2022 peak. That does not mean technology work has disappeared. It means the market has cooled after the 2020–2022 boom, and companies are becoming more careful about which digital profiles they hire.
Cybersecurity is different because the business need keeps growing. PwC Switzerland reports that 52% of Swiss firms are increasing cyber risk investment in response to geopolitical volatility. At the same time, only one third of Swiss firms have implemented data controls across the full data lifecycle, and only 11% have implemented quantum readiness measures. These gaps show why specialised talent remains valuable: organizations may understand the risk, but many still lack the capability to manage it properly.
The National Cyber Security Centre also confirms the pressure on Swiss organizations. In 2025, it processed 64,733 voluntary reports of cyber incidents, around 2,000 more than in 2024. It also received 222 reports under the new reporting obligation for operators of critical infrastructure, introduced on 1 April 2025.
The operational picture is not getting simpler. In its March 2026 semi-annual report, the NCSC noted that the cyberthreat level remains high and that attacks are becoming more targeted and complex. It also reported 57 ransomware incidents in the second half of 2025 and 145 reportable incidents affecting critical infrastructure during the same period.
These gaps help explain why organizations continue to invest in specialized cybersecurity talent.
AI is also reshaping the labor market, and by mid-2026 this is no longer a distant trend. It is already visible in hiring expectations, junior roles, and the way companies define valuable skills.
PwC’s 2026 Global AI Jobs Barometer shows that the skills required for the most AI-exposed jobs are changing more than twice as fast as those for less exposed roles. It also notes that AI-exposed junior roles are seven times more likely to require traditionally senior skills such as leadership and strategic thinking.
Switzerland shows the same pattern. A Jobs.ch AI Report, reported by Swissinfo, found that job advertisements for career starters in 2025 were almost one third below the 2019–2022 average. In AI-exposed sectors, including IT and telecommunications, the share of junior roles fell by 16%, while the share of senior roles rose by 26%.
The message is not that AI “kills” cybersecurity. It is that value is shifting. Routine execution is easier to automate. Judgement, architecture, investigation, governance, and the ability to use AI tools responsibly are becoming more important.
For cybersecurity professionals, this creates a clear career lesson: technical skills still matter, but they are no longer enough on their own. The strongest profiles combine cybersecurity expertise with analytical thinking, business awareness, communication, and continuous learning.
Current benchmarks show that cybersecurity salaries in Switzerland remain competitive, particularly for experienced specialists and senior leaders.
The Robert Half 2026 Switzerland Salary Guide lists Security Specialist salaries between CHF 124,000 and CHF 177,000 in Zurich, and between CHF 129,000 and CHF 184,000 in Geneva. Its IT salary data also places Cloud Engineer salaries in Zurich between CHF 120,000 and CHF 157,000, while Chief Security Officer salaries range from CHF 205,905 to CHF 246,715. Robert Half’s figures represent projected starting base salaries and exclude bonuses and additional benefits.
SwissDevJobs reports an average salary of CHF 113,000 for Cyber Security Engineers, with most salaries ranging from CHF 95,000 to CHF 135,000.
Taken together, these benchmarks show a broad but clear pattern. Cybersecurity salaries in Switzerland remain well above the national median, especially for experienced professionals, cloud security profiles, and leadership roles. However, exact salary outcomes vary significantly depending on region, seniority, company size, sector, and the depth of specialization.
